EuroScout 2010 Is Coming to Chelmsford

Posted 16:26:27, 16/04/10 by Stephan Nicholls, 0 comments posted Communications and Media

EuroScout 2010 will be the biggest and best exhibition of Scout and Guide philately ever to have been seen in the UK and it will be here, in the heart of Essex, for three days in May under the sponsorship of The Scout and Guide Stamps Club.

Exhibits have been promised from all over Europe, as well as the United States, and the quality of these will be extremely high, including one International Gold Medal winning display.

EuroScout is now into its twelfth year.  The series began in 1996 in Germany and has been followed on a biannual basis by exhibitions in Austria, Italy, Belgium, Czech Republic, Spain and Switzerland  -  and is now for the first time in the United Kingdom taking place in Chelmsford, which was home to the 21st Centenary World Scout Jamboree in 2007.

Approximately 150 frames, each of 16 sheets of Scout and Guide philately, will be on show.

The Exhibition, which is in The Shire Hall (at the top of the High Street), will be open from:

10.00 - 18.00 hrs on Friday 14 May.
10.00 - 18.00 hrs on Saturday 15 May.
10.00 - 14.00 hrs on Sunday 16 May.

Admission is totally free and there will be special gifts for all young people attending.

This will be a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to see items:-

  • dating back to the Siege of Mafeking, when the seeds of Scouting were sewn.
  • from the Warsaw Uprising in the Second World War when the Scouts ran the postal delivery service.
  • covering the history of 100 years of the Guide Movement
  • and so much more.

All members of the Scout and Guide Movements are invited to attend - from the youngest to the oldest - there is bound to be something of interest whatever the age and you may discover a new hobby.
Refreshments will be available courtesy of Chelmsford and District Scout Fellowship.

On the Saturday evening there is a Gala Dinner (tickets 30.00 pounds) at The County Hotel, Chelmsford and anybody interested in attending is invited to contact Terry Simister on 01245 251190 for details.
