Uniform and costs

Our uniform gives everyone in Scouts a sense of belonging.

Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone feel part of the group. Our uniform consists of a sweatshirt or shirt that you can sew badges on and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, trousers or shorts.

Scout uniform

A uniform can be bought from our District Shop, or online from the Scout Store. If you’re not sure where to start, leaders can give you more information about what to buy. They may even know if someone is selling a uniform second hand. You won’t need a uniform until you’ve been with your section for a few weeks to settle in.

Costs

Each group charges a fee (called subscriptions or subs) to cover the costs of the annual membership fee, a groups’s running costs and their regular meetings – which covers venue hire, admin, insurances and materials for activities. Although many of these costs are annual in nature, to make it more affordable for parents many groups spilt these costs into monthly, termly or quarterly payments. There are sometimes extra charges for special activities, camps and events. We try to keep our subs as low as possible so that anyone can come to Scouts. If you need help paying subs, please speak to a member of your leadership team in confidence who’ll be able to discuss ways in which they can help.
