Imagine speaking to other Scout groups across the world? That’s what over 120 Beavers, Cubs and Scouts did on the weekend of 21st and 22nd October when they took part in the annual JOTA–JOTI event and earned their Communicator badges.
JOTA–JOTI is a Jamboree with a twist. It’s a brilliant event that Scouts all over the world take part in every year – JOTA makes use of amateur radio whilst JOTI uses online communication such as Skype.
Our JOTA station was able to speak to people as far away as Poland, Germany and Belarus whilst our Scouts spoke to leaders and young people in Canada as part of JOTI.
Over the weekend, the young people learned lots of new skills in order to earn their badges, including semaphore, morse code, sign language and how to make a 999 call.
